Unhappy Server cant ping self OR out !

Am a newbie , and I installed redhat 6.2 (Zoot) in a Compaq Deskpro, and it loaded fine. Problem started when I try to get network up. It fails to ping even its own IP address ( static ) and gives a " Destination host unreachable " when I try to ping out !

I need help on this ASAP ! Anybody ? Please

1 Check the network and IP are properly configured using ifconfig

try ping -n <local ip > . it may work. by default ping will try to lookup the name. put a host entry int hosts file. It will work
