Unhappy Sendmail wont take conections

I just installed POP3, configured it, got it running everything is just fine, I can received mails using Eudora but I can't send mails to anyone on the network, when I telnet to the server on port 25 I get a "Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused" message.

Funny thing is, I can use Pine to write and send mails so I take sendmail is working, but I don't understand why it wont take connections from other programs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially when I accepted the challenge to make Linux our main mail server instead of MS Exchange.

so you just can't use the sendmail port over the network? by default sendmail will only listen internally. look at the /etc/mail/sendmail.mc (i *think* it's mc... might not be) and follow the instructions in there to make it listen externally.

Hey, I worked thanks !!

But the connection is taking too much time to connect and send the mail?, I was messing around with the DNS yesterday could it be something wrong with the DNS?

If the connection is taking forever I'd be willing to bet that your DNS entries are wrong. By default when something is designated to authenticate to DNS primarily, it will try and wait to receive a timeout(sometimes as long as 5 minutes). When it then gets this timeout it tries to resolve it other ways. I can almost guarantee this is your problem.
