sendmail & socks proxy
Hi All,

I am using "mailx" utility (that uses "sendmail") to send bunch of mails in a Linux-Ubuntu PC .

My set up consists of a proxy server. Through internet searches i came to know that, "tsocks" can be used to tell applications to go through socks proxy server.

I tried tsocks with mailx, but it is sending mails with out passing through the proxy server. Even i tried "dante-client" (socksifying applcations) also, but mailx utility doesnot sends packets through socks proxy server.

Any help is appreciated.

From what I understand, unless specifically configured to use SMTP, mailx will use the local MTA. Invoking mailx with tsocks or dante-client will have no effect unless mailx actually tries to send mails through an SMTP server.

According to the mailx man page, there are several ways to force mailx to use smtp, the easiest being the use of the smtp variable.
