can anyone please tell me howto configure sendmail to create the sendmail.dc and the
from the information that I get, I don't know if I have to edit from a text editor to create the [ m4 /etc/mail/ >/etc/] or just execute this command from a terminal.
do I need to have these two packages [sendmail.doc and] with sendmail.
I am using mandrake 10.0
I am trying to configure sendmail so I can use it as a mailserver for a group of over 50 people
please tell me if qmail is a better choice.

you need to edit the file '/etc/mail/'

once you have made all of your changes then execute the command

m4 /etc/mail/ /etc/mail/

You might have to copy the file to /etc/ if your changes don't work. Sorry I don't remember the exact location.

You then need to restart the sendmail server/service.
in RedHat it is like this

service sendmail restart

Sorry typo command should be

m4 /etc/mail/ > /etc/mail/

Hi all,

Just a quick Question, i have just Purchased sendmail 0'reilly 3rd edition and without realizing that its written for Unix, and i want it for Linux, is this book a waste of time or is there another book writen for Linux Sendmail Eg O'reilly sendmail for Linux version. Or will this book work for Linux as well ?



Just spent $120 Ausi Dollars on this Book

sendmail under any *nix is pretty much the same, so it was not a waste. Personally though, I prefer Postfix as it is much easier to configure and run (
