send messages


Hi
ENV:
Pc1 linux mandrake 10.1 kernel 2.6
Pc2 linux mandrake 9.2 kernel 2.4
both are connected to a local lan ..
(i'm able to ping ,,,telnel etc etc)
i want to insert in the local init scrip a command....
so when a pc completes initialization is able to send a message
to the other ....
example when pc2 completes ,send a message to pc1 to be displayed at tty1.........

any help will appreciated

I wonder if you could NFS mount the /dev directories on each other, then add this to rc.local

There's a program called "talk" that's available on typical linux distros. It connects to a remote machine's tty to start a chat. Kind of the ancestor of today's IMs Do 'man talk' to see if you have it.

On second thought, the machine calling the program may need a tty itself. So it may not work then from a script without a legitimate login/password.
