Secure routing and enabling services (Advantek Networks Router)
Hi all. I recently adquired an Advantek Networks Wireless Broadband Router (WavePro series, model AWR-754GR) in order to connect my two PC's to internet. The router is connected to the DSL modem which provides the external connection to internet. I configured the router's DoS Settings to block all type of external scans, pings, etc. Then I went to grc.com to probe the router's security and to my surprise it showed some closed ports (not stealthed ports) which responded to unsolicited TCP packets, so I guess something must be wrong. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I think the DSL modem has one IP address (the external one, provided by mi ISP) and the router has another IP Address (it's own default IP address which is the one I enter in my browser to configure it); so I guess grc.com might be scanning my DSL modem instead of the router and/or my PC?? So, how to secure (stealth) my external IP address??
Another question I have I how to enable some ports to use some services. For example, I want to use aMule so I need my port 4662 open, so I entered to the router's configuration and tried everything but when I open aMule it says my port 4662 is not available, so I can't use the service. The router's configuration section for special apps is a bit confusing for me, so I'm providing this screenshot so someone can explain me how to set up things there. Oh, and another question: I tried to set the router's password but I wasn't prompted for any username, just to enter the password twice, but later when I tried to enter to the router's setup page I was prompted for a username and password so I couldn't enter because there was no username (I had to reset the router to restore it to the default config). How to set up the username and password correctly?? Thanks in advance. |
