Samba - XP Mapped Drive Issue

I have installed Samba successfully on my Redhat 9 machine. I have also successfully set up a share and can access it from my XP machine.

I have then mapped a drive from my XP machine to my linux share. The problem is when I reboot either PC I can no longer use that mapped drive, or access the linux share in any other way. In order to regain access to the share I must change the PC name of my XP box. I get an error stating that there is a 'duplicate computer name on the network, please change the PC name and try again.'

I've tried restarting the Samba Service, rebooting both PC's at the same time but still no dice. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Do you have a DNS server?

Is your linux box a DNS server?

If the XP computer is set to acquire the IP through DHCP maybe when you reboot it is getting a different IP address and the DNS is getting confused.

Try using a static IP on the XP computer and see if it works.

Unhappy Duplicate name error

I had the identical problem as described by TKMAN. All my computers use static IP and I still get the error. Any suggestions would be great.
