Samba with XP and 2000 - Profile Hijynx

I am hoping that some of you have found the answer to this little problem. I have searched and researched until I am blue ... but no reasonable info has been found.

Issue:

- Samba Server (any flavor)
- Windows PCs (2000 and XP)

Join the domain... life is good... all your data comes with you

Drop the domain and re-join... Windows thinks you are a new downline user and creates a profile something like david.domainname.000, then david.domainname.001, etc.

Your data, user settings etc do NOT follow you.

I have tried the changes in the registry in the profilelist key... NO FIX

I have tried copying data between the downline profiles... NO FIX

There MUST be an answer to this. This is an on-going problem with any Samba box we install/upgrade/re-install.

PLEASE someone have a real answer to this problem... before I go skipping down the centerline of the highway drooling and giggling!

Thanks so much...

David

I had 2k set up like you have it above and I found that sometimes it would send the docs and settigns back to the profile server, and other times it wouldn't .

It seemed to send them back every 2nd time you logged it. I never found the fix.

Issue is, however, not even with the profile server/samba server. It's the PCs themselves. Windows seems to create these ridiculous incremental profiles each time you drop the PC from the domain and then rejoin. Then, just to make matters worse, the user loses all settings, etc, and there doesn't seem to be a fix? Is there?
