Samba user/password

I have set up Samba on my RH 7.2 Computer. When I log in to it from my windows machines it asks for a username and password. Is there a way to configure Samba to assume the same person is always loging in so that it does not have to prompt for a username and password?

Thanks for your help.

Although it is unrelated, I was wondering if you could send me a copy of your smb.conf file. I have been trying to at least get a logon screen on my windows clients with no luck. I would appreciate the help. Thanks

well provided you have added a user,.. smbpasswd -a username

then you can use this,...

Code:
[global]
   workgroup = Jase
   server string = Jase
   security = SHARE
   guest account = nobody
   interfaces = 192.168.1.2/24 127.0.0.1/24
   encrypt passwords = yes
   socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=4096 SO_RCVBUF=4096

[Jase]
        comment = Jase's Home
        path = /home/jase
        valid users = jase
        public = no
        writable = yes
        printable = no
        write list = @jase
the write list = @jase allows me to be the only one who can write to that share. I hope this is what you were looking for

Samba configuration

Hi EternalKnight,

When viewin' the shares of the linux box on the Network Neighborhood using Windows 98 machine usually ask for passwords when "your samba configuration isn't properly configured" coz i also encountered that problem when i installed my Mandrake 8.0 recently.
here's a link that may help you do the job easier. scan these links on the net so you will understand how it's done.
try this: "http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/network/samba/samba1.html"
just follow the instructions there and you'll see it's runnin' perfectly

happy samba networkin'!

Earl
