Samba Swat configuration

I use linux Redhat 9.0 and Samba3-0-14a. The swat configuration done by me is as follows:

<1> Locate Swat
# find / -name swat -print
/etc/xinetd.d/swat
/usr/share/swat
/usr/sbin/swat
/opt/samba3-0-14a

<2>start smb service
chkconfig smb on

<3>enable Swat
#vi /etc/xinetd.d/swat ( edit swat control file )

disable yes ---> disable no

<4> Trouble
I start a internet explore and access http://localhost:901, But the
access encountered a time out connection to locahost:901. I wonder
the reason? Please help me! Thanks.

I would check your /etc/inetd.conf file to see if SWAT is enabled. It should be a line that looks like this:

swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/sbin/swat swat

Or something to that effect. Make sure it is in there and not commented out.

Inetd has been changed into xinetd in Redhat9.0

Instead of inetd.conf xinetd daemon is used to provide the network services in Redhat9.0, there is
not /etc/inetd.conf file in Redhat9.0. Your configuratoin method is for the early linux version.
