Samba + streaming media = skipping

Hey all, I recently upgraded my kernel from 2.4.21 to 2.6.1. I notice that when I play an mp3 or a video from my samba share, songs skip and video gest choppy every so often. What do I need to do to stop this because I hate using nfs for shares since samba seems so much faster than nfs. Is there a setting in the client/server that will increase the buffering, would that help? I didn't have this problem with my 2.4.21 kernel.
