Hi!
I installed Samba on Fedora core 5, made a smb.conf file for testing.
When I try to start samba:
[root@kobus ko]# service smb start
Syntax OK
Starting SMB services: [FAILED]
Starting NMB services: [ OK ]
[root@kobus ko]#
smbd could not start!
From the /var/log/samba/smb.log:
[2006/11/13 09:00:03, 0] smbd/server.c:main(847)
smbd version 3.0.23c-1.fc5 started.

did I do something wrong, or is this a bug??
Any help would be appreciated!!
Have you run the ntsysv command, if not do that
and check whether smb is on or not, if not
then on it and run service smb restart again.
I hope it will solve ur problem
