samba - smbmount freezing my terminals -> "Device is busy"
Hi all
Well first, Im running a RH7.3 box, 2.4.x kernel, 3.0.4-1, but the same problem is happening on other machines that are running different samba versions and configurations:
I have being playing with LinNeighborhood, and something very unusual and anoying have being happening to me. I can browse thro all machines, and i can mount them on my computer no problem. The problem comes when i try to acess a few SPECIFIC folders that i mounted. For example, i have a folder called "usuarios", on a windows box, in witch has 3 subfolders, "Users", "Backup" and "tmp". Now comes the interesting part; I can browse the subfolders Users and Backup, but as soon as i try to browse the tmp folder, the terminal, nautilus, konqueror, or whatever way i try to acess it just FREEZES.
And after that, every folder that was mounted from the original folder "usuarios" (that were acessable before) become unreachable, freezing every time i try to acess them.
*** Note that on a windows box i have full acess to all folders under "usuarios"***
Another interesting fact is that, when i try to shut down the computer, i get 3 FAILED messages, two of them saying something like "smbumount //mnt/h - Unable to umount, device is busy" and the last one saying something like "/mnt/h - Illegal Seek" and it just stops there and does not shut down nor reboot.
Does anyone has any clue what could be happening? Can anyone give me any tip? Because i got to the point where im stuck and dont know what to do.
Thanks a lot in advance

Ok, well i found out something VERY VERY VERY weird today. The smbmount has a problem with only a few specific formats: For some reason, if the folder i try to open contain a *.sxw or a *.rar, it will do the freezing stuff.... There is more stuff into it, since i have removed all loose files from the "tmp" folder and it still not coming up, but when i put a *.sxf or *.rar file alone in a folder, well, u know
Please help me, this is getting WAY to strange to me, and im not an expert on linux, as you can probably tell....

What happens if you try to browse the mounted volumes from the command line? If you are able to browse to your temp folder on the command line, then try to copy a file to your local machine and see if it hangs.
In other words try "cd /mnt/h/some/dir/temp" then "ls" and if this works then try "cp myfilename.rar ~"
Of course you will need to leave off the quotes. Good luck.

Already tried that a while ago.
When i get to the folder where its mounted, if i eighter press TAB or ls or anything deeper then the "tmp" folder, it all freezes as well

Well problem is a lot simpler then what i thought.
It wasnt the file format that was giving me the problems, it was the ã, õ characteres. every file name or folder name with those will freeze the whole thing.
Anyone know how to fix it, besides from removing those characteres from ALL windows machines on my pretty big network?
Thanks
