samba, slackware and winXP

I am using slackware 8.0 with samba 2.0.6 I had it working as far as file sharing and I couldn't get it to work with print sharing. I would like to figure out the print sharing problem but first and foremost I have a logging in problem since I upgraded samba to a newer version. I can view the windows shares from linux without any problems but I can not log onto the linux from winxp even though the smb.conf is the same. Is there something in the registry I have ot chisel out to get samba to work with it again? I am getting really tired of messing around with this. I am tempted to just reinstall winXP but my wife would probably get pretty upset with me. I appreciate any input.

You have to share the printer in the smb.conf file. If you look at the stock one that came with smb you can see a commented out section where you set this up. I have been using XP with the printer and CUPS successfully. Hope it helps..

I have already shared the printer. It is telling me that there is no drivers available when I try to set it up with winXP even though I keep pointing it at the correct driver. That isn't my biggest problem though. I can not log back into my linux shares. I need to find out what is blocking this. I have the same smb.conf and I had reverted back to the version of samba before I upgraded. It will not let me log in any more.

thanks for the help,

Buy the SAMBA book Have you made sure the correct networking drivers are installed in WinXP?

my problem is not with samba. It is with XP I don'ty need another book I need to know how to get XP to cooperate it worked great until I upgraded now I can't even go back to the same version that was working. It is pretty much useless coming here for information if I am just going to be told to read a book.

If the problem did not start until you upgraded Samba, I would tend to think that was the culprit. I understand you reverted to the previous ver. of Samba and used the same smb.conf file, but unless you changed something within XP I would probably focus on Samba as the problem. Unless of course I'm missing something here.

I only recently set up Samba for the first time myself, but I know that the touchiest problem I ran into was getting Windows to authenticate okay with Samba.

Anyway, there's my .02, good luck

BTW, I'm in Maine too woohoo!! (Some winter huh? I mean.. what winter??)
