Here in chapter 2 see the "A Basic Samba Configuration File" section. That should get you on your way.
good luck.
Nope, still i am not able to view windows box from linux.
I edited the smb.conf file and the name of the workgroup in samba file is the same as the windows workgroup [ workgroup = test ]. the name of the windows computer workgroup is test. I have also added users and passwords both in linux and windows and both are same.
Restared samba & firewall, still i am not able to see windows machine from my linux box.
smb:///ip and smb:/// gives nothing in nautuiius. from windows i am able to ssh into linux box however.
Are you sure the syntax of your smb.conf is correct (try 'testparm')?
You could try 'smbclient -L <name-of-linux-computer>'
and 'smbclient -L <name-of-windows-computer>'

I believe that the easiest way to learn how to use samba is trying to administrating it through webmin. Webmin is a very useful GUI (graphical user interface) *nix administration tool. Try to download it from www.webmin.com and install it to your linux box. After that - believe me - accessing files in your linux box will be much easier...
