Samba Setup
Hey. I've got a LAN setup in my apartment with two other boxes running XP Pro. I've got RH9 and would like to see the LAN on my box for file sharing & other things.

Can someone give me some quick instructions on how to set that up? I'm pretty sure I've got the packages installed for running SMB but I'm unsure yet as to how I turn it on.

Thanks In Advance.

if samba is not running go into /etc/init.d and have it auto run at start up by typeing chkconfig --level 345 smb on

then go into /etc/samba and edit the smb.conf
i'm not sure what kind of configuration u want so check the man smb.conf

mine is just a simple configuration. i can post part of mine later on if u want to look at it

Ok. I just played with the smb.conf file. I think I've got it setup... let's hope it works.

If you could post your .conf it'd be helpful. Thanks

I think you have to create an user for each computer. use smbadduser unixid:ntid like smbadduser linux:window
password is not necessary if everyone on your network can be trusted.
