I used to have a samba server working just fine: I could access it from my windows comp and get files etc. When I changed over from static to dhcp assigned IP addresses (same addresses, just assigned via dhcp now) The samba server quit showing up in network neighborhood.

I am running Win98, and had a similar problem before, but it was with the two battling for master, and I ended up reinstalling widows to fix it. I tried a reinstall of windows, but the problem remains. I can browse the server from itself with smbclient.

Any ideas/questions?

Make sure that your wins server is being sent to the client via DHCP. You may have had this coded in on your static configuration.

If you can ping the IP address of the samba server, then its probably a wins issue.
