Well I guess some people can't read anymore....

But anyhow I've given Feudora RC2 the boot and tossed the discs to hell, since everything works in:
Mandrake, RedHat 9 and ClarkConnect.

If you'd read my post you'd see that I changed my rights from drwxrwxr-x usrname root ... to ..... [B] users [/] ... like yours and that gave me the same problem. Changing the group ownership back to root solved it.

Whatever, next time read the man pages and docs before asking for help .... 'cos it ain't gonna come as quick!

Iztari: I was going to suggest you check one more thing, but too late. Anyway for anyone else with this prob...

Check to see that the folders listed in your path for the shares in the smb.conf are spelled the same as the folders. My brother was fighting this same issue with the access denied message, thinking it was a permission thing. Actually he had capitalized the first letter of the folder (windows habit) but did the path in all lower case...

Good point - I'd forgotten this one - all too often we look for the complicated solution when the simple one's staring us in the face! This should only be an issue in the smb.conf in which case the share appears to work but is not accessible.

eg I have a share called:
[sirius]
path=/something/or/other/Sirius

Because Windows is case insensitive I can map drives manually to any variant of the share eg
net use k: \\servername\SiRIus which will successfully map a drive to the share. In Network Neighbourhood it appears exactly as in the smb.conf.

If I change this in my smb.conf to
[sirius]
path=/sirius

testparm returns ok status and lists shares, sirius share appears in Network Neighbourhood but when I try to access the sirius share from Windows I get //servername/sirius is not accessible - The network name can not be found. However, if I look in the samba logfile it gives the reason :

winmacname (192.168.x.x) Can't change directory to /something/or/other/sirius (No such file or directory)

which is a pretty direct clue as to what is happening.
