SAMBA printing
 

I have setup a linux box running RHL 9 as a server for a network i have in my home. The rest of the machines are running Windows XP. I setup the file server portion with relatively no problems. I can't get the printer portion however. I have and Epson Photo Stylus 925 connected via usb. I setup the printer on the linux box and it has no problems printing jobs from the box. I tried to send a print job through one of my XP machines, and it refuses to cooperate. I have seen examples online of a working smb.conf file, but those settings do not work for me. The print spool on the samba server is set to /var/spool/samba . Can someone help me with this problem? Thanks in advance.

Can you tell me what samba version you are running?

I am running Samba version 2.2.7a-8.9.0

Ah, I had this same problem with Samba 2.x.x I upgraded to the newest Samba 3 and all my problems just disappeared. Try that out.

Perhaps you can help me out. I tried to install that before, but i got some error. I forgot what it was. Can you tell me where to get the rpm and install it.

I'm not sure of what Linux distro or version you are running because most of the new ones have samba 3 alread. Anyways http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/ go there to find the rpm for your distro.
