Samba printer sharing and CUPS

I google-d and got to this site http://samba.unixtech.be/en/samba/learn/printing.html.

1) But firstly I need to know what is cups and what it does?

And is the network setup as below?

Clients > Samba Server > Printer

So, for any client, that is connected to the Samba Server, needing to print files need to go through the Samba Server?
The client will send the "print file" (what is the correct term anyway?) to the Samba Server and the Samba Server will process it and print out the file?

You should visit the following link to check for CUPS setup.

http://networking.earthweb.com/netos...le.php/2233051

http://networking.earthweb.com/netse...0951_2236011_2

also, you can try with 'swat' utilities.

hope this helps.

thanx for the links

But I still don't quite understand what's CUPS' role in Linux Printing. Perhaps if someone can tell me the windows equivalent of CUPS, I might be enlightened

Have you visit the home page of cups? just visit the following link at:

www.cups.org

you will get all the details about it and also read the Documentation.

http://www.cups.org/documentation.php
