Hello guys, I kinda new with open source, I was able to install a linux red hat 9 as workstation, but have no luck configuring it as a server. I need 2 things working, 1.) configure red hat 9 (shrike) as a PDC to share files, use logon scripts, share files, etc. 2.) configure it as a DHCP server (with dns working as well).
I have read the red hat 9 manual and followed its instructions on how to setup samba to become a PDC, but no luck at all, when I try to login using my other computer with win98 installed, it always tell me no domain server available blah blah blah. and when I configured it with only as peer to peer, I can't see the samba server in my network neighborhood, but I can ping samba just fine, so I don't know why I can't see it, all the settings on my clien side (win98) are all correct. I know its an old issue, but I just wanna learn how to set it up as easy as setting up win2000 server (I can set win2000 server with as pdc, bdc, dhcp server, proxy, etc in just about an hour) but with linux I just can't seem to do it, the worst part is after changing some configuration in the smb.conf and try to reboot it, it just hangs and I end up reinstalling the whole thing, kinda annoying, I hope someone can help out so I can create a client-server network using linux as my server.. Thanks!
my red hat 9 just keeps hanging and I need to reinstall it again, after reinstalling I will try to configure it one last time then I'll post it to you thanks
hello again sorry for the late response, anyway I finally made my samba work, I was able to connect and transfer files from my linubox to my windowsbox computer, although the next step is how do I configure my samba to be my primary domain controller, specially for authentication and how can I make my linuxbox computer assign IP address using dhcp>? thanks!
