Samba on Samba

Hallo,
I am dealing with a small LAN with Win2k PCs and RedHat Linux server with Samba as PDC and need to access Samba shares on server with a notebook (not registered as domain machine). This notebook has dual-boot WinXP and Linux.
Well, if I am connected as WinXP, it does work (authentication is requested). With Linux/Samba does not, the notebook can access every shared folder on PCs but not the server. The kde browser seems to keep trying for long, until I stop it.
Any suggestion ?

Ok, but Samba should work as well. Shouldn't? Why it does not?
