Samba not working over internet
Is there anyway to broadcast my SMB domain?!?!?
I really need to share files, between this compiter, and my
friend's computer. Anyone?
Secomd problem: GiftD reports zero files shared... anyone know why?
I am sharing 3 files.

Since SMB is not secure I do not recommend it for sharing files across the internet. It is also possible that your ISP blocks SMB traffic. I suggest using ssh or a VPN. hamachi is an extremely easy VPN to use.

yes of course. broadband is just a fast(ish) network connection. at my work we have about 100 VPN sites, which run, mostly, over ADSL.
i dont know about giftp.
check out hamachi as suggested by michaelk.
also many router/modems can do easy VPN set up - my netgear has a setup 'wizard' for vpns and firewall rules.....

Definitely don't use smb over the internet, depending on what your current setup for you lans are, if you have a couple of spare machines lying around I would maybe suggest setting up a couple of IPCOP firewalls which have VPN software included, you can then setup a VPN between both firewalls and secure your data through encryption.

Opening SMB to the internet is like leaving the front door to your house open. If you want a secure way of transferring files use scp. It is easy to use and farely fast, probably faster than VPN, don't know though. Good luck!
