Hi all.
Basically i have tried to set up a Samba server so that i can share files between an Fedora 3 box and Windows XP. I set this up through the configuration tools and not the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. Anyway on to the problem.
Basically the problem is as follows. In the server settings window i have Authentication Mode set to User. When i try to access the share directory on the Fedora box from XP i get an error reading.
Quote:
\\localhost is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to system Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.

If i set the Authentication mode to Share i get access to both machines from either with no difficulties.
So my quetion is. Does the problem here rest with then name localhost? Do i need to Assign a name other than this so that the machine can be recognised on the network? I'm kind of lost here can someone please help. It would be much appreciated. Thanks.
