System: small LAN with one workstation, one SAMBA file server and one user (me).

Just now, had to reboot workstation. Since reboot, I can connect to my Samba shares, but cannot write to them. (I have always been able to write.)

smb.conf is no different than it was before, and still shows the list of users I had originally specified in the write list for [homes]

Restarting Samba has not corrected the problem.

Anybody have any idea what I can do here?

Well I'm gonna guess that you haven't changed any *NIX permissions on the server, right?

So just one client reboot and no access? No changes to Windows login scripts, General options in smb.conf or anything obvious?

Correct... and yet not correct.

Since encountering the problem, I have of course rebooted the server itself. I have also quit KDE on the workstation and deleted old socket and tmp files (just in case).

I did not change any permissions (that I am aware of), but have been noodling around looking for that as the cause of this problem. This is odd, too:

I can ssh into the server as the owner of the shared directory and edit a file in that directory. But, even ssh'd in, I cannot save the file. There are no permissions tighter than 0755 on any of the directories in the path, and some are even more permissive than that.

I'm stumped!!!

Is the partition mounted readonly? 'mount' will show you what devices are mounted and the options they were mounted with.

mount shows all as mounted rw

...This was supposed to be an easy weekend!
