samba Newbe question

Hi all, well I am a linux user, sience a bit a go, ( do not have dual boot, just plain linux on my machine) I have some members in my family that use windows, so I want to network windows and linux

I have been browsing and getting a basic Idea of how, the issue is that the help only refers to smb.conf etc. and how to install samba. other than that, well , I also notice that there are tons of samba questions where the problem relies on settings other than install, and notice that the questions are done after setting samba. I would like to knowif there is a setup docs ( you know, user friendly, that will tell how to from scratch , like how to install, how how to fireup the services and how to configure samba usign windows 9x. w2k. or xp. I found many docs like this but this docs are fullfill with martians terminology, and as a newbe is descouraging , and I know that many samba questions are done by new users. so my questions is how can I network windows and linux machines from scratch.

thanks all

well you simply install the samba server and then edit the configuration file to suit your needs. all the info is in the smb.conf manpage. if you have a specific problem then ask back, unti then tho, all the information you need is in the man pages. The service should automatically start on boot, and i think there's also a samba howto as well which you should read.
