I have the same problem. What's the deal here?

[edit] So I disable SElinux and magically it works. Great. Linux really drives me nuts sometimes, its like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing..

Talking

Its not that the left does not know what the right does ...

SELinux is meant to improve security.

There are 2 options enabled by default:

SELinux protection for nmbd daemon
SELinux protection for smbd daemon

Instead of disabling all of SELinux you can just disable those 2. That will do the trick

Ok, but, how does making SMB work without warning the user that is what it causing it protect anything?

It does:
[2005/08/15 22:02:22, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:startsmbfilepwent(279)
startsmbfilepwent_internal: failed to set 0600 permissions on password file /etc/samba/smbpasswd. Error was Permission denied
.Unable to open passdb database.

If I am in a hurry and need a quick solution I ask a friend of mine. Guess what's the 1st thing he tells me?

I read that but I don't see that saying SELinux anywhere. I'm sure I'm ignorant about this as I am still learning but it didn't really help me too much.
