SAMBA help- Cannot log on


i am trying to connect to my linux box and i see it in network neighborhood on my windows 2000 machine but when i try to log on either with root or any other username it keeps saying bad username or password. is there a file i missed configuring? Thank you for your help, to all the people who have helped in the passed you are all full of knowledge.

I went on both machines and created the same username and password on both machines. i am lost . please help

did you also create accounts with 'smbpasswd'?

if you have created user accounts jou must also know if the passwords are incripted.

you can changed it in the smb.conf file and when you use windows you can change also the the encrypted password in the register.

maybe you have the security level wrong if it doesn`t work jet if you have tried these steps your lost because more i don`t know about samba!!

have u ever heared about swat?
if you do not need expert configuration you should use it rather than the command line.

normally it runs on url:991

if swat not work there are several tools
for linux to mennage your server

i have download webmin this is a greate tool
to mennage your server you can install a lot of things and it`s simple to install and you can browse it with your browser

go to you linux box and login as root
open a console
and type this.

smbpasswd -a hereauser on the linux box enter
type the same password as the linux box

and try again. to access
