Samba HELP!!!

Hi, there are 2 computers in my house, one with Slackware Linux and the other with Windows XP. Both computers are connected to internet through the same router. I've heard that is possible to connect (transfer files, pop-up messages) the computer with samba, but I couldn't make it. Will somebody be so kind to tell me how to connect the computers step by step?

we aren't going to explain samba ste by step when there is perfectly suitable documentation out there to do it, such as the samba howto at tldp.org. if you have specific problems using it, please ask for specific help.
