samba does not show folder contents

hi
i have samba 2.2.5 on suse 8.1 serving directories on a reiser file system to windows xp.
the other day i noticed that some sub-directories appear empty on the xp's windows explorer while on the linux file system they have their content. this is extremely odd, it only happens with very few sub-directories (2%), but its frightening. There is nothing special about the directories that appear empty, no permission difference with the ones that appear normally.
I solved this restoring a backup copy of the directory, this made its contents (which were always there for linux) reappear on the windows's explorer of the xp's. Has anyone encountered this problem with samba exports??
