samba DC troubles

I have set up samba as a domain controller for a windows xp domain, I can add machines, users and logon with my drives mapped and working fine. the only thing i am having trouble with is when i try to add users from the samba domain to the local administrators group or any local group for that matter on the xp systems. I get the message "An object named "XXXX" cannot be found. I get that same problem when i try to set up ntfs rights. does anybody have any ideas? I have aplied the XP registry settings needed

thanks

A shot in the dark -

Are you specifying that the domain accounts are from the domain, and not the local system, e.g.

domain\user

?
