SAMBA config problems

I am very much new with samba and I have tried my best to make it work but with no success. 2 problems.

#1 I have done what configuation I can and an icon does appear on my win2000 machine but then when I double click on it it says "NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND". How can the icon appear but not be able to find the path to the new server? I have created the "SMBPASSWD" file and everything else I can think of. I have also moved the hosts file off the linux machine and copied it to my win2000 machine but no luck.

#2 the icon I mentioned above, well here is the weird part. when I close the network neighborhood window and then reopen it, the icon that was there has disappeared. Only when I restart samba on the linux machine and then reboot the win2000 machine does it reappear and of course I still cannot access the linux machine from the win 2000 machine.

below is my current config for the "smb.conf" file:

workgroup = workgroup(which is my workgroup name)
server string = Samba Server %v
netbios name=server3

hosts allow = 192.168.1.

printcap name = /etc/printcap
load printers = yes
printing = lprng

log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 0

security user

encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd

socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192

interfaces = eth0

dns proxy = no

[homes]

comment = Home Directories
browseable = no
writable = yes
valid users = %S
create mode = 0664
directory mode = 0775

[printers]
comment = All printers
path = /var/spool/samba
browseable = no

guest ok = no
writeable = no
printable = yes

It's sounds like a permissions problem.
How did you create this file? Did you use SWAT graphical interfase? It's much easy if you use it.
So, my suggestions:

Check that you add a user what you are going to use in future in Samba. Check perrmission on the shares. Restart Samba, should work.

I did a lot of mashines with Samba and I always use SWAT. If you have SWAT and you start it you shoud point you browser to localhost:901 and work there.

Best regards,
Oleg
