Unhappy Samba Client

At work I have my RH7.3 laptop linked to the Main Windows NT4.0 server. In Order to be able to access shared resources on the NT box I have to type su (superuser) smbmount //servername/servershare //mnt/whatever. Then I have to type in the password of my normal user (which is the same as is on the server) and everything is ok.

If I try to do an smbmount using my normal user account I get the following message

"smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct user mounts (503.503) smbmnt failed"

After I have performed an smbmnt as su I can get into the shared files on the server no problem. Is there a way I can either

1) perform an smbmnt using my normal user?

and/or

2) perhaps edit the fstab file to be able to see the NT shared files at bootup?

I can see the shared files on the server but it is a bit tedious opening a console, going in as su and then performing an smbmnt to various shares on the NT server everytime I bootup. Any help on this subject would be much appreciated.

both these are possible, and have been told many many times if you search the forum!!

firstly it tells you what to do in the very error message to get the first version to work right, set smbmount as suid (chmod +s /path/to/smbmount)

for the second optino, search.

I've searched man pages, info files, and the help file on "chmod".....but I couldn't find out what "+s" does and means.
