Hi,
I'm running Samba 3.0.14a (the supplied package) on a Debian Sarge machine and noticed while browsing a share that some characters (eg. ö) don't display properly. I'm using the 'English (UK)' settings and British keyboard layout (selected during the initial install).
Without any extra code page settings, these characters show as underscores when browsing from a Windows client.(although the documentation for Samba 3 says that it uses Unicode by default)
With the following lines added to /etc/samba/smb.conf (as in this thread:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...+character+set) it shows a square instead and reports:
Code:
smbfs: failed to load nls '8859-1'
Code:
dos charset = 850
unix charset = ISO8859-1
display charset = ISO8859-1
Could anyone shed any light on how to fix this?
EDIT: I've just realised that this also occurs in the console (the example of ö shows as '<94>') and when viewing the directory listing via Apache.
Thanks in advance.
