Samba changes file ownership

Hi,

I have RH9 as file server for Win network, use samba-2.2.7a as smb server. The file sharing is OK until I realize that samba change file ownership when win user save a file. This is normal or I can reconfigure samba so file owner never change when another user save that file?

TIA

Welcome to LQ.

Take a look at:

You may want to read the whole article but that is the relevant section.

Thank's,

I have been try that and some times doesn't work. I think I must check the win conf. That's way can prevent from group owner changes, but not user owner. Samba always change user owner if another user can edit a file (a file that have a rw-rw--- permission). Can we prevent user owner change too?

There is a force create user and force create group parameter that can be set. Read smb.conf man.

force user and force group? Thank's, but I don't want use that because sharing directory have a different sub directory that belong to many user or group, maybe I can setup sharing for each sub dir that have a same user.group, but I want to find a way to setup one sharing with many sub dir and many user.group.

force create mode? I don't have a problem about creating file My problem is about file that being modified. Samba always changes owner (user and group) when a file modified by another user that have a right for modify.

Thank's for your replay.
