SAMBA - can't find it in Neighborhood

I'm running RedHat 7.2
with the latest Samba-Version
Of course, configured for the same workgroup
Samba status says smbd & nmbd are running
the smb conf is in /etc/samba
and i am using xinetd

My Win98SE Client does not show any other box.
I'm running Microsoft Client for Win Net...
And ping & routing works...

But on my linux box also clients like swat & webmin
did not react, even if i am starting them manually.

So what am I doing wrong?
Why are those configuration tools not working?

I tried to use swat by calling http://localhost:901
and webmin by calling http://localhost:10000
in WebBrowser

My Windows Client is using
Microsoft Client for Windows Networks
an ethernet adapter with tcp/ip & netbieu for file sharing
192.0.0.2 / 255.255.255.0
and using the same login & pass i registered under linux &smbpasswd

hrm...
try Start -> Run -> "\\<<IP OF YOUR SAMBA BOX>>"
without the <<>> stuff of course :-D
the thing why swat and webmin doesnt work could be:
1. localhost is unknown (look into /etc/hosts for a 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain etc line)
2. hostname of webmin/swat misconfigured (when u try to connect to localhost and the webserver of webmin is configured to use for example foobar as hostname there must be a ip for the name foobar in the /etc/hosts too)
3. look if your loopback device is up (/sbin/ifconfig and look for a "lo" section)

look with netstat if the ports 901 and 10000 are listening (netstat -na)

what is the error message that u get when u are trying to contact local host on port 901 and 10000? connection refused, timed out...
whatever
information!

From the windows client i can ping my linux server,
but when i try to ping 127.0.0.1 / localhost from the
server itself i just become
... NO PERMISSION

Is that the reason why swat and webmin does
not work?
What can i do?
