I have set up a samba server to be the PDC of my network. It seems to run fine, when I try to join the domain from a windows machine it connects and asks for a username and password.
My problem is, that everytime I try to join the domain, I get the rror message "Permission Denied" and cannot join the domain.
I have set up users (linux user accounts AND smbpasswd entries) I use WinXP/WinNT/Win2k as Clients, have Samba 2.2 that uses encrypted passwords.
What the heck is not working here? Do I have to do some setup on my windows client too?
I ran into this, and it caused me to ditch the PDC idea as a Samba method. Apparently, every windows machine has to have an account prepared for it as well, and only the root user can setup this access from a windows machine. Check the Samba faq on using it as a PDC for details:
