Can someone please help me to understand what is needed for specifying the domain admins group and how that corresponds to the linux groups/users when using samba?

I will add users and machines to my linux box for all windows users and hosts:

smbpasswd –a –m <workstation>

I will add users to passwd via useradd, etc.

useradd -g smbuser -d /dev/null -s /dev/null <workstation>$

***What needs to happen for the domain admins group on both the linux and windows side? What username/password will I enter when joining a machine into the newly created (samba) domain?***

Also, what are the necessary entries in smb.conf for this?

you must first add a linux user then add the samba user.

Must be the same name and pass

I am running Red-Hat 8.0
I add my user through the GUI.
Then run smbpasswd -a username

It should prompt for password.
You must also creat a root smb user
to do this
smbpasswd -a

Now that you have your users you can get to work on your smb.conf

This is under /etc/samba

Edit the file search this forum for different configs that is how I was able to make mine work.
