SAMBA and VMWare
Hei everybody!
I'm doing a few tests with SAMBA in a VMWare.
I'm using Windows XP with Red Hat 9 installed in VMWare 5.0.
When I try to access my shares from SAMBA in Windows XP I get messages saying something similar to "you do not have permission to access" or "there's no service runing on the server".
I tried to install SAMBA with source codes (configure; make; make install). After that I set the smb.conf file and started 'smbd -D' and 'nmbd -D'.
If I type smbstatus, it doesn't show any locked file and a message comes saying "No locked files". I don't know if It's right, but I thought at least the two processes smbd and nmbd should appear after typing smbstatus.
I heard this kind of problems are not new when using Linux and VMWare.
Well, any ideas!?
Thanks!

Have you setup user accounts on the samba server?

Yes, i have set them using the command smbpasswd -a <user>.
I think this problem is connected with the use of VMWare.
I'm gonna keep trying ....
By the way, how do I close a thread?
Thanks!

Hey Brian1, thanks for your help!
I could solve the problem.
Iptables was enable and it was restricting the connections, so I disabled it.
After that I had to insert encrypt passwords in smb.conf and everything started working!
