Samba -almost there
Hello,
I have Mandrake 8.1, 2.4 kernel, Samba 2.2
Having problems accessing Samba server from W2K and XP machines. Forgot to save my smb.conf . Am able to ping server from both machines and able to see server in Network Neighborhood. Searched thru the Networking forum here for guidance and tips and made some changes but am now stuck. I used to be able to access the server from W2K machine and enter my username and passwd and I was in. I restart Samba services for every change. Rebooted windows machines as well with no effect. Now the pop up box for access keeps asking me for username and passwd again and again. The pop up reads:
Incorrect password or unknown username for:
\\Linux-server
Connect As: username
Password: passwd
below is my smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = FRED
netbios name = server
server string = Samba Server
printcap name = lpstat
load printers = yes
printing = cups
max log size = 50
hosts allow = 192.168.0. 127.0.0
security = user
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
os level = 33
domain master = yes
users allow = mark
[public]
path = /public
public = yes
writable = yes
TIA

Re:
I know the answer to this but:
Is "Fred" also the workgroup on your Windows boxes?
and
Did you setup a password for the user?
smbpasswd - or whatever it is
