Samba?!?
what is this samba.. i have a home netwok of windows98.. and i have shared folders on a nother computer.. all my computers use IPX/SPX and NetBuie (not usre if its spelled right) not TCP ip .. is there a way to use this samba to access the shared folders?! and how do i start up samba?
heh.. im a newb at linux networkin

samba puts together the liux equivalent of windows Network Neighborhood, sharing drivers on a network. to get it working, read the howto's...

You will either need to get your servers running IPX/SPX or get the clients to use TCP/IP.

This is messed.. i found the samba configuration center.. but i cannot find this netowork neighborhood type of program.. i didn't think it would be this hard to figure out how to retrive shared networked filders on IPX/SPX... can any one gime a good url with documentation.. im really baffled as i am running low on HD space at the moment (13mb free ROFL)

BTW... im using a 1.2gb HD for linux running mandrake8.0 ..heh u can see how saving stuff via network can seem important to me..lol

you don't generally use a netneihbourhood equivalent for samba... it only does the important stuff. if you think you want an annoying front end for it search for LinNeighborhood

ok... i check it out.. i under stan that linneighborhood.. but it asks for the other computers IP addy.. my netowork does not use TCP/IP .. just IPX/SPX and net buie (not sure on spelling heh) is there a way to get around this still using samba or linneighborhood?

you can just mount the shares very simply from a script file or manually and they will be as if they were on your machine, then you can use file manager if you want.
mount -t smbfs //computername/sharename /localfoldertomounton
