Samba 3.0 in Windows 2000 Domain
Hi, I am new to the forum thing, so here it goes.
I have setup a machine running kernel 2.6.3 and Samba 3.0.2a. I have used Samba 2.x.x in the past, and I was able to get it to play nice in my domain, where I could setup public samba shares, and people could browse them and then I had samba shares that only specific users could access. I created accounts for those users on the linux box, and samba was running in security=server mode
Now, it doesn't matter what I try, I can get the new box to work the way the old ones do. If there is a local user account on the linux box that matches the windows account logged in when they access the samba share, no problems. Otherwise, I get the "please enter username and password"
I have followed instructions on how to add the samba machine to an Windows Active Directory system, and now the samba system is on the Active Directory system, but I still have the same problem. What am I doing wrong? Please, I do not know what I need to post for help. Thanks in advance..
Charlie

You can use a smbusers file to map Windows usernames to UNIX.

Thanks for the reply penzilla! What I dont understand is why I could get to work just the way I wanted it to in Samba 2.x? I never used the smbusers file with that, if I only allowed access to a certain samba share to certain users, I created a linux account onthe linux box that matched the name of the windows account. Then it was all great grand and wonderful. Is there a way to allow all users in a domain, or would I have to enter each one manually? Thanks in advance.
