Samba 2.2 Im having problems to see win98 workgroup
Hi, i ve got a Mandrake 9.2 (PIII 512 Mb Ram) as gateway of a little workgroup formed by win98se terminals and one or two XP Pro pcs.
The problem is that sometimes some terminals can see the network neighbourhood right, and sometimes not, as well that sometimes i got troubles for printing via network. The srange thing is that sometimes i can see all pcs from on terminal and someone i cant. Sometimes i can see the network from a pc and not from other, and maybe then i can from the one i was not able to it. Im getting really crazy!!! as you can see. I might have something wrong with samba configuration, wich i use to backup data of each pc on the gateway on their home dirs. Im using Samba version 2.2..... and here is my main config smb.conf: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = conastec.com netbios name = SEVIDOR LINUX encrypt passwords = yes update encrypted = no preferred master = No local master = yes domain master = no load printer = no guest account = nobody invalid users = root valid users = mariel, sergio, romina, cecilia, adrian, juan, fabian interfaces = 90.0.0.1/255.255.255.0 security = user socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY \ SO_SNDBUF=4096 SO_RCVBUF=4096 wins support = yes name resolve order = wins host lmhost bcast #os level = 34 dns proxy = no preserve case = yes short preserve case = yes unix password sync = yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\sUNIX\spassword:*\ %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:*%n\n. max log size = 1000 time server = no create mask = 0664 directory mask = 0775 [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes read only = no create musk = 0700 ftp = /home/ftp/pub public = yes printable = no guest ok = yes create mask = 0664 directory mask = 0775 [Temp] path = /tmp read only = No guest ok = Yes browseable = yes writable = yes public = yes create mask = 0664 directory mask = 0775 Can anyone help me with this strange malcfunctioning???? Thanks. Emilio:scratch:  |
set 'preferred master = yes', bump up your 'os level = 34' to a higher number. It sounds like the windoz boxen may be winning browser elections.
As I understand it, every few minutes all the machines on your workgroup will hold an election, to decide who the big kahuna is going to be on the workgroup. you need to stack the deck to make sure your linux server wins every time :) Edcutis |
