i have following in my smb.conf file
when ever i try to acess my "smb://mshome" it asks me for password
also i have shared the folder /root/song but iin "smb://mshome" it doesnt show anything
and in the other network the pc has windows XP there it asks for password for samba too???what shall i do??


workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = Samba
encrypt passwords = yes

read only = no
browseable = no

path = /root/songs/
read only = no
browseable = no

To stop it asking for passwords, you need to add "smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd" to the Global section. Then at a commandline, add users to the Samba password file with "smbpasswd -a username".

It would be better to create a directory /home/songs to share all your music. /root is root's home, and normally isn't accessable by regular users. You also need to change browseable to yes, so that you can actually browse the share on the network.
