Angry Pls help me before I loose my job!!!

Hi gurus out there,

Pls help me with this problem I have. I tried to run my squid proxy for the first time and the following error occured on my /var/log/messages:

storeUfsDirOpenSwaplog: Failed to open swap log

Exited due to repeated frequent failures

I came across different mailing list, which tell that i should create squid as group and user; but I already did but my problem still remain apparent. I checked also my /var/log/squid/ directory and have provided permission of 750.

What could be the problem?

swaplog... I think that goes in with the cache files, not var/log/squid. If you dont' know where it is, read the squid.conf looking for cache_dir. Make sure you have:

* set permissions on cache_dir directory so the squid user can write there.

* run 'squid -z' to make all the subdirs squid uses in the cache

Hi rhonneil,
I had been struggling with squid for the past week. I have it working now. But I never got the error you mentioned in your post.
In my case, I left the swap log to none - which is the default.
So in case, you haven't solved the problem yet, if you had enabled swap log in your squid.conf file, try disabling it. The main reason why I had problems with squid in the beginning was that I usually forgot about chown and chmod commands to all squid-related dirs(one thing or the other). Check and double-check everything.
Hope that helps - if you haven't figured out already.

Cheers !!
