rtl8187se wireless issues

Hello,

I'm running Linux Mint 9 FLuxbox edition on an Asus EeePC 900HD, which uses an rtl8187se network controller.

I've been having issues with it since I first installed linux about two year ago. But usually I can solve this problem by using ndiswrapper.

When I installed Linux Mint 7 about a year ago, it seemed that the distro supported rtl8187se natively. It also worked for several other major distributions.

I took a break from linux, only to reinstall linux today, and I was greeted with the old "friend" that is network-manager telling me in light text "Wired Network - Disconnected"

I'm sure it's my wireless that's having issues because the internet works fine when I use an ethernet cable.

This time I tried using ndiswrapper to install the drivers, but wireless networking still will not work. I cannot detect access points nor can I connect to any.

I've used modprobe, but it doesn't help.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Kygha

EDIT: I also found a .deb package that is supposed to install rtl8187se modules/drivers. It didn't help.

wireless card is probably not working well. External usb card can be used instead.

Also check lspci&iwconfig if card appears there.

Well, I'm actually a bit embarrassed to say that I've solved my problem... my wireless had been set to "off"

All I needed to do was press fn+f8 to fix it.

I can't understand why I didn't try that first -_-
