rsh problem~~

I know the permission denied question has been asked many time before but after reading those post i still couldn't solve my problem. Has anyone successfully setup rsh in slackware?I have installed slackware10.2 on both of my computers and here's what i've done.

-uncommented lines in etc/intetd
shell stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.rshd -l
login stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.rlogind
klogin stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd rlogind -k
eklogin stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd rlogind -k -x
kshell stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd rshd -k

-add "eric.asdf.com eric" to etc/hosts.equiv. Where "eric" is my hostname and "asdf.com" is my domain name. I have also tried "eric.asdf.com root" root is my only user account.

-etc/hosts updated with the correct IP
192.168.0.89 eric.asdf.com eric

-add lines to securetty
rsh
rlogin

I tried to rsh to the local computer by entering "rsh eric ls" but I got "Permission denied". I have also tried to rsh a remote computer setup in the exact same way and got the same result.

And when i tried "rsh -l root ericgu" i was asked to enter rlogin password. I entered user's password and got Login incorrect.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
