rp-pppoe problem: it says im connected but can't ping anything

hey guys im getting sort of desperate here any help would be greatly appreciated.

im using gentoo. ive just got an adsl connection. its a dlink 300 connected through a switch, my mates on the network are connected with PPPoE, i downloaded and installed rp-pppoe w/out any error messages. i ran adsl-setup, then start, which it does "...connected" but i cant ping any servers, or my dns server. here are the dumps from the things i thought had something to do with it, if anything else can help please tell me. thanks in advance.

(one last note i had to change the /etc/conf.d/net from "up" to "dhcp" so i could connect to other computers on the lan)

ok here are the dumps

##These are the contents of /etc/resolv.conf

##These are the contents of my /etc/conf.d/net

#
#iface_eth0="dhcp"

# For adding aliases to a interface

* The following section is a dump of the packets
* sent and received by rp-pppoe. If you don't see
* any output, it's an Ethernet driver problem. If you only
* see three PADI packets and nothing else, check your cables
* and modem. Make sure the modem lights flash when you try
* to connect. Check that your Ethernet card is in
* half-duplex, 10Mb/s mode. If all else fails,
* try using pppoe-sniff.

I did not read through all of your post. It's Friday and my brain is fried. I can tell you I found out that my ISP for my ADSL does not allow any ping and shuts down most ICMP traffic. They said it was a corporate decision and is throughout their network. I don't think they are in your part of the world but yours may have a similar policy.
