Router web interface not loading
 

I am using Ubuntu and I've tried Suse and Debian but I can't seem to access my routers web interface.
I have Linksys WRT54GL, D-Link 604T and Conceptronic routers... None of them I can get the interface
to load up.
I also have windows but I'm not really using it for anything other than gaming but I can access the
routers through there. I would like to get rid of windows and keeping it around just for networking
seems a bit useless.
I use firefox in windows and it works.
Everything connects just fine in the web using linux except opening the interface. Is there something
blocking the router ? a firewall that I might have to open up or something ?
I've tried asking this in Ubuntu forums, Linksys forums, Ubuntu IRC etc... no one has been able to
figure out an answer... most replies I get are to check my network settings and I've done that a
hundred times so they are correct.

I type in the address of the router 192.168.1.XXX then comes up a login window where I enter the
username and password, click OK and it just stays loading forever...

Are those routers all online in the same time or you have tried them one by one?. The linux box and windows one are running simultaneously?. Maybe your router's config is not accepting connections on the web interface from the linux box. Have you tried moving the IP of the windows box on the linux and try to access the router's web interface afterwards?. There might be even more reasons for your issues.

Maybe the login page uses javascript and you have that disbled on one of the browsers perhaps?

Currently I have the D-Link and the WRT54GL connected. I've tried them separately and I have enabled Javascript in
Firefox. I have dual boot setup Ubuntu and Windows and a few Mac's that are able to load the interface, also the
router is not set up to ignore different IP's for changing settings, and to confirm I tried with the windows IP... :(
Could it be that it's a hardware issue ?

But you're able to load the login screen, so how can it be a hardware issue if you can get that far? The only thing I can think of is the router wants you to log out from the windows machine before it allows anyone else to log in.

Yeah I though about that and I tried to simultaneously log in using windows and one of my macs,
works... so i guess I'll try logging out of windows and booting to linux and try it just in case
it recognises two diferent MAC addresses when I log with win+mac. Other than that all I can think
of is it requires some port open in Ubuntu wich by default is all locked up. But I have no idea
what port it could be using... and it would have to be the same port for both routers... since
there both not loading the interface.

And thinking about it, it must be somenthing in Ubuntu since all three routers are blocked at the
login screen. I wen't through nearly all browsers available to linux so that's ruled out, I tried
3 different distro's and a few live cd's like knoppix so it's not distro specific, I'm trying it on
3 different routers after resetting and configuring them again using windows and using mac... I've
checked the network settings over and over... the web works and everything connects through the ports
I opened up in the routers..
Almost everything "easy" has been ruled out... it should work but it doesn't so I guess it has to be
a firewall preventing the loading.

Also the distro is a clean install only with a few codecs added like java and flash

I wonder if your problem lies in caching of the web pages. After I flashed my WRT54GS with the DD-WRT firmware last week, I had the same problem as you are describing with Firefox and Opera. The only way I could see the router pages was through the Konqueror Web Browser.
After a couple of days, I was able to use Firefox again, but why I don't know. I am still inclined to believe the problem is in your browsers.

Well thanks all for the fast replies, I'm going to try a few more things and if nothing works I'll have to configure
the routers using mac.


I finally got it working, I guess it was because of the dual boot problem that I had logged in from
windows and it wouldn't load in linux after rebooting. My windows installation got totally screwed due
to a change in the BIOS settings and I had no choice but to boot into linux (afer restarting the
router) and when I logged in to the router it loaded as it did in windows. Just thought I'd add this
info in case anyone else has a similar problem.
