Angry Router problem

Here is my problem, I have a Linksys 4 port cable/dsl router with 3 winbox'es hooked up to it and one nixbox with redhat 7.1
The 3 winbox work fine and I have all settings configured manually, that is to say I dont use DHCP

however on the nixbox I can ping IP's and addresses externally and internally and I get reply's (google.com gets reply's with no packet loss and so does 192.168.1.1) but if I try to use Lynx, or FTP or Telnet it doesent work and the connection timesout I really dont understand this and have been trying to fix it for 3 days.

It could be a DNS problem. Have added your isp's dns server(s) in /etc/resolve.conf?
